Heart-deep Healing

Back

Shepherd Center, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spine and chronic pain, and other neuromuscular conditions.

The App

SwapMyMood is a mobile app designed to assist people with traumatic brain injury using evidence-based methods to support problem-solving and emotion regulation. It is a user friendly electronic version of these evidence-based tools that were previously made available only in paper format. The app guides users through multiple steps involved in the intervention and gives the option to save personalized solutions to problems that proved effective for quick reference in future situations. This feature also functions as a method of providing the user with feedback about actions that have previously been successful in helping them with problem-solving and emotion regulation.

Our Work

We were truly honored to be recommended to Shepherd for this project by the Spina Bifida Association upon completion of the SBA App. We kicked off the discovery phase by learning about the Shepherd Center organization and the purpose of the app and functionalities. From the first moment of design until the end of the development phase, keeping the end user in the forefront of our minds was of paramount importance.

With this particular audience in mind, the app needed to be very user friendly, easy on the eyes, accessible, versatile, and efficient. We wanted to give them a fresh look in line with their brand while keeping things simple. We quickly learned that this is a complex app with many different flows and very specific “evidence based” functionalities. We took the time to learn the flow for each element including the Stop Moment, Emotion Cycle, Stop Logs and Wellness Surveys. During the programming phase, we implemented a phone from app function, sharing via customizable email, in app video tutorials, customizable color themes, and reminder push notifications. Additionally, since this is simultaneously a research tool, we built a backend that serves as both a content management system and reporting tool to track user usage and adapt the app content over time.

The app is available in Apple and Google Play stores.

Our experience with Bracket Media was outstanding! Bracket’s expertise, insight and responsiveness helped us transform our ideas into an attractive, intuitively navigable and ultimately very useful mobile app. We’re looking forward to collaborating on future projects with Bracket Media.
